Vintage Louis Prang Christmas Card

This is one of a series of Louis Prang Christmas cards. 

In 1873, Prang began creating greeting cards for the popular market in England, and began selling the Christmas card in America in 1874. Therefore, he is sometimes called the "father of the American Christmas card." His cards are highly prized!!

St. Nicholas magazine was a monthly children's magazine published between 1873 until the 1940s. I'm not sure of the age of this cover but I think it's probably no later than 1920ish. I love this crazy looking Santa!!

Birds in Winter Merit Card

This pretty birds in winter card was a school reward card given to children who had perfect attendance. Kids used to get merit cards for being good students, and lots of them found their way into scrapbooks. The artist is James Russel Lowell, and it's dated 1906.

If you've never had a chance to go to a Christkindlmarkt (Christmas market), you should definitely try to make it some year. We go to the Christmas market in Bethlehem PA and it's so much fun! There's food, crafts, glass blowing demonstrations, a bazillion ornaments for sale, and did I mention food?

This postcard reminds me of the markets I've been to. Some have people in period dress walking around with toys hanging from a wooden display just like this vintage Santa in the postcard!

This one reminds me of me and my cousins on Christmas eve, hanging out of the window at my Grandma's house looking for Santa. Grandpa used to go outside and ring sleigh bells, and we'd all try to find the sleigh. Another one of my favorite Christmas postcards! I think this one is so sweet. Illustrated by Ellen Clapsaddle.

Vintage Can Label - Butterfly Brand Beans

I didn't know that I had this label, it's amazing what happens when you clean! Olney and Floyd sold canned goods in the very early 1900s and the label art is amazing. You've probably seen their pumpkin label, but the bean one is just as pretty.
