Victorian Corset Advertisement

Victorian corsetry is pretty interesting, if you look at antique advertising there are so many different kinds that cinch you up! I can't imagine wearing one.
I'm busy working on Halloween stuff and haven't had time to make freebies so I'm grabbing some images for you from some excellent public domain sites. This one is courtesy of the Boston Public Library.

Victorian Corset Trade Card

I love all kinds of antique ephemera. I found this great corset trade card. For anyone interested in typography and turn of the century design, this has it all! I didn't do much to clean it up because I really like the age and wrinkles.

Victorian Perfume Trade Card

This is a very cool trade card in the form of a silk purse (or let's get Victorian and call it a reticule!). I always wonder what the perfumes smelled like. I'm not a big perfume person, and some scents give me a headache, but maybe this one was light and pretty!

Vintage Victorian Trade Card - Witch Hazel

Such a pretty witch hazel trade card, you don't even notice that it's for piles (hemorrhoids)
I love the smell of witch hazel. On really hot days I'll sometimes put it on my horse after he's had a bath. Makes him smell great!

Antique Milliner Business Card - London

This one is a treasure, it's a trade card for London milliner Mary Elliot. I'm not sure of the exact age, but her address is mentioned as "at the Wheat Sheaf and Star", so this is before street numbers. Maybe 1700's? Can't be sure.
Located on the Strand, she sells laces, caps, handkerchiefs, and ruffles! I left this in original condition. Free to download for personal use.

This is a late 19th century raisin label. Who knew there used to be raisin vineyards! This design is so elegant. I love the grape leaf border, and of course I always love roses!! This scan is a little grainy, sorry - but it will print fine. Free to download for personal use!

So it's getting closer to Halloween (yeah, I know it's only July, but I like to anticipate!). I'm working on fall crafts already, and if you are too, I thought you might like this. The pumpkin label is from the late 1800's and is one of the best examples of decorative advertising, in my opinion. Here it is in full color, and with an aged background. Free to download for personal use.
