Frexias Halloween Postcard

This is a pretty rare postcard. It was illustrated by Jason Frexias who worked with the Winsch publishing company. He's known for his toddler characters and has a large series of postcards that were done in the early 1900s. His work wasn't copyrighted and has been copied extensively. I'm not a fan of his toddlers, but I love the overall look of his halloween illustrations.

Vintage Nursery Rhyme Illustration Kate Greenaway

I can't resist nursery rhyme illustrations. They make me remember reading them to my kids when they were babies...sigh! This one is from the 1900 book The April's Baby Book of Tunes that was illustrated by Kate Greenaway.

Ellen Clapsaddle Halloween Girl

I'm in full Halloween mode. I'm sorry!!! The end of August comes around and I become fully obsessed. This little Halloween girl is one of the more rare Ellen Clapsaddle postcards. She shows up, but not as often her other Halloween kids. I love the apples on strings, and the pumpkin face!

Vintage Fairy Queen Postcard

I love this fairy postcard! It is part of a six card Raphael Tuck set called Happy Land. If you can find one in really good condition they are worth a lot of money! I don't know the artist, but the illustration style is typical of the early 1930s.

Clapsaddle Halloween Postcard

Ellen Clapsaddle was an amazing artist and entrepreneur, and is famous for painting adorable children. She spent time in Germany learning the illustration trade, then came home in 1901 to start her own publishing company, Wolf Publishing. It was a very successful business! Her style is widely recognized and loved.

This little girl is using an old Halloween charm.  Peel an apple, keeping the peel in one piece.  Throw it over your shoulder, and the peel will form the initial of the man you will marry.

This is one of my favorites.

I bet this little girl always uses Goff's Silko braid! I removed the lettering so you could add your own :-) Hope you like this one!

Vintage Busy Bees ABC Children's Book

This is one of the many children's books that were published by Raphael Tuck in the early part of the 1900s. One of my favorite things about this illustration is the way Busy Bees is drawn. Hope you like it!

Dolly Dingle Paper Dolls

I shared a Grace Drayton Halloween postcard yesterday. She is also famous for her Dolly Dingle paper dolls that were published for years in the Pictoral Review magazine. There are lots of reproductions out there, but this is a scan from the original magazine, dated around the early 1930s. Scan quality isn't great, but it should print fine!

Grace Drayton Vintage Halloween Postcard - Girl and Pumpkin

So I'm sneaking in more Halloween, I can't help it! This postcard was published by Raphael Tuck in 1913, and while it's not signed, this is definitely by Grace Drayton. She studied at the Drexel University School of Design for Women here in Philadelphia. She went on to create the famous Campbell's kids in 1904 (which this little girl is no doubt related!). She worked as a freelance artist, and is also famous for the Dolly Dingle paper dolls. I'll post some of those later on this week.
