I was a bad girl and bought a huge lot of Victorian ephemera. Well, not that bad maybe :-) I fell in love with this bird card immediately! It was a gift from one child to another, as written on the back. I just scanned it and left it as is, no photoshop!!

VIntage Red Bird Postcard

I don't have a date for this pretty bird postcard, but it doesn't have a divided back, so I think it's before 1907. The post office required divided backs with a designated spot for the address after this time.

Louis Prang Greeting Card

If you follow this page, you know that I spam you with illustrations of birds in the snow. I had to get this one in before spring!!

The card was published in 1879 by Louis Prang, who is famous for his beautiful lithography and is also known as the "father of the American Christmas card". He is also known for favoring female artists!

Vintage Postcard - Snow Birds

I saw Robins in my yard yesterday, and now they are out there hopping around in the snow that fell overnight. Thought this card was appropriate! The artist is Maude Scrivener, and this card was published between 1911 and 1914.

Some pretty birds in the snow. The dark stuff is glitter. Since they used real silver glitter back then, it has tarnished. This is a favorite postcard of mine!

Birds in Winter Merit Card

This pretty birds in winter card was a school reward card given to children who had perfect attendance. Kids used to get merit cards for being good students, and lots of them found their way into scrapbooks. The artist is James Russel Lowell, and it's dated 1906.

Christmas Postcard - Birds in Tree

I love birds and have multiple bird feeders in the back yard. I think I'm going to get some little baskets and fill them with seed and decorate my pine trees just like this Christmas postcard! They would look sweet tied on with red bows.
